Pictures of a smaller unit and details can be seen HERE.
Our vision includes expanding virus testing to rural community hospitals, on-site at businesses and organizations saving medical expenses throughout the health care system. Savings include patient travel expenses and wait time in doctors offices.
The problem is a pandemic
Over 200 countries around the world have their people and economies devastated by the Covid-19 coronavirus. Defeating or controlling the virus will take up to eighteen (18) months before a vaccine is deemed safe. The key to effectively fight the virus requires testing as many people as possible to determine if they have or have had the virus as the scientific community searches for treatments and vaccines.
As of today, April 5, 2020, Worldometer.com shows coronavirus COVID-19 is affecting 206 countries and territories around the world and 2 international conveyances(ships). So far 1,632,955 persons have been tested. With a United States population of 331,002,651 it is abundantly clear we have a huge testing task ahead of us.
Confirmed Cases and Deaths by Country, Territory, or Conveyance
The coronavirus COVID-19 is affecting 209 countries and territories around the world and 2 international conveyances. The day is reset after midnight GMT+0. — April 7, 2020 update.
Here’s why testing is important
Testing puts peoples minds at ease if they test negative. Finding those testing positive enables early treatment by medical professionals.
Others may be asymptomatic while some are found to have unknowingly recovered. In such instance, their anti-bodies have value. Those who have anti-bodies might donate blood for plasma therapy (if found to be viable) on the mobile vehicle for use in treating seriously ill victims of the disease.
Here's what we plan to do about it
Our mission is to gather samples to be tested later in a laboratory.
One of the keys in dealing with Covid-19 and future viruses requires developing better technologies that can tell if someone is infected with a virus BEFORE they become asymptomatic. That way, someone who is sick can be treated and take appropriate action sooner to limit the number of other people infected.
The low cost recently announced Covid-19 tester from Abbott Labs can DETECT COVID-19 IN AS LITTLE AS 5 MINUTES. FDA has granted emergency use authorization for fastest available molecular point-of-care test for this novel coronavirus.
Mobile testing results will be submitted for inclusion in databases for further statistical study of Covid-19 as well as helping prepare for future viruses. We need to determine if the Abbott tester can be deployed onboard the testing gathering vehicle.
This first Mobile MD is planned to service the northeastern Ohio area.
